DESCRIPTION

Located in front of the Chinchorro Bank, which is the largest atoll or reef area in Mexico and is part of the Mesoamerican Reef System (the second largest coral reef in the world). It is integrated, in addition to reefs, of a lagoon and three keys, where it is possible to admire the different types of habitats that give it its importance and value as a Protected Natural Area. Some of the species that you will see are loggerhead, hawksbill and white turtles; dolphins, cat sharks, snapper fish and eagle rays. The seabed of Banco Chinchorro is a true cemetery, since there are more than 69 sites where remains of sunken ships lie dating from the 16th to the 20th century. One of the most famous is the site 40 Cañones, a name given because it had 40 pieces of artillery, which after years of looting were reduced to 36, which are scattered around the area. This Spanish ship is believed to be from the 18th century. The maximum depth is 8 meters, which makes for fantastic underwater visibility. It is a unique place to practice diving due to the great diversity of marine flora and fauna that has made this its habitat.
